Statement of Faith

[John 1:29]

“Behold the Lamb of God which taketh away the
sin of the world...”

Shiloh Christian Church holds fast to the historic creeds and confessions of the church of Christ throughout the ages, which includes the Apostles’ Creed, the Nicene Creed, the Creed of Chalcedon, and the English confessions of faith resulting from the great fires of controversy, heresies, and persecution during the Reformation.  (Westminster Confession 1647, Savoy Declaration 1658, London Baptist Confession of Faith 1677 and 1689, as well as the earlier Three Forms of Unity brought from the continent of Europe).

The Holy Bible

The Holy Bible is the inspired, inerrant, authoritative and infallible Word of God; the Bible, by divine revelation of the Holy Spirit, becomes our rule of faith and practice unto eternal life.

The Trinity

There is one God, eternally existent in the three persons Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

God

God is a Spirit, infinite, eternal, and unchangeable in His being, wisdom, power, holiness, justice, goodness, and truth.  God is fully omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent.  He is sovereign in creation, providence and redemption.

Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is truly God and truly man, inseparably united in one divine person.  Each nature attaining its own attributes.  In the Incarnation Jesus was born of the Virgin Mary, lived a sinless life, was crucified, died, was buried, rose the third day and ascended into heaven, sits at the right hand of God as the only Mediator between God and man.  He will come again in glory and judgment.

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is one substance with the Father and the Son.  He eternally proceeds from the Father and the Son; He dwells in the hearts of believers bearing witness to the Word and effecting their regeneration.

Man

God created man, both male and female, in His own image, but in Adam’s sin of disobedience to the revealed will and Word of God, man lost his innocence and became subject to spiritual and physical death.  Thus subject to the wrath of God, man became inherently corrupt and utterly incapable of choosing or doing that which is acceptable to God apart from divine grace.  Adam being the natural and federal head of all mankind inflicted upon all an innate depravity and inability for good and an inclination to evil.  From this state all evil and transgression proceed.

Atonement

Because all have sinned, atonement must be made in order for man to be reconciled to God. Jesus Christ made a complete atonement for His people through His substitutionary atoning death on the cross. He imputes His righteousness to all believers securing us full redemption for all who repent of their sin and trust in Him alone for salvation.

The Law

The moral law as revealed in the Holy Bible reflects the unchangeable character of God and forever binds all people, believers as well as unbelievers.

Saving Faith

Saving faith is the work of the Holy Ghost by means of the Word and strengthened by Baptism, the Lord’s Supper and prayer.

The Church

  • Invisible Church

    • The universal church, which is invisible, consists of the whole of the elect that have been, are, or shall be gathered into one under Christ, the head thereof, and is the spouse, the body, of the fullness of Him that filled all in all.

  • Visible Church

    • Also universal, under the gospel, consists of all throughout the world who profess Christ, and is the Kingdom of God, outside of which, there is no possibility of salvation.  To this universal visible church Christ, through the power of His presence, and the revelation of His Word, has given the ministry, oracles, gifts, and ordinances of God for the gathering and perfecting of the saints in this life to the end of the world.
