History of Shiloh Christian Church
The history of Shiloh Christian Church began with the conversion of Matthew and Elaine Lewis in the spring of 1964 in the second year of their marriage while attending Bethel Christian Church, North Berwick Maine. Feeling a definite call to ministry, and having the opportunity to preach once a week at the Wednesday evening services, I spent the next ten years serving the Lord under the guidance and discipleship of Pastor Robert Cole, Sr.
In January of 1978, I received a call requesting us to fill in as interim pastor of a small church in Seabrook NH. After six months of serving in that capacity, a group of believers from within that church asked that I become their permanent pastor. From this humble beginning we conducted Wednesday and Sunday services for the next two years in local homes. In the summer of 1980, the former East Eliot Methodist Church became available to rent and we relocated there.
The church was incorporated in January 1981 and we became legally established as a non-profit, independent, non-denominational Christian Church – Shiloh Christian Church.
The name Shiloh is associated with the scripture in Genesis 49:10. Shiloh is a reference to Christ interpreted as the one whose right it is to reign “and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.”
In December 2018 we acquired a building located in Sanford Maine which is now our permanent home.
Throughout the years our goal and purpose has been “The Great Commission”, to preach and publish the good news of the gospel, that men might be saved.
